Kuala Lumpur, 29 September 2026 – Malaysia aims for six in ten Employees Provident Fund members to be on track to meet the Basic Savings benchmark by age 60 by 2030, placing retirement adequacy alongside growth and wages in the country’s long-term economic agenda. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said close to four in ten members are currently on course. The objective is a future adequacy trajectory, not a claim that 60% already hold RM390,000 today.
The RM390,000 figure is the Basic Savings level scheduled under the EPF’s Retirement Income Adequacy framework for a member at age 60 in 2030. It is not the current threshold for every member regardless of age. The level is being phased in: the age-60 Basic Savings benchmark is RM270,000 in 2026 and rises by RM30,000 annually until it reaches RM390,000. Age-specific balances also differ throughout a working life.
