Kuala Lumpur, 30 January 2026 – Bursa Malaysia’s blue-chip stocks recaptured upside momentum in early trading on Friday, with major banking counters leading gains as investors continued to show confidence in the market’s outlook amid supportive domestic and global conditions.
After recent volatility, key financial shares staged a broad rebound. Maybank, Malaysia’s largest bank by assets and market value, rose several sen to around RM11.72, while CIMB Group climbed to about RM8.62. Other major lenders such as Hong Leong Bank, RHB Bank, Public Bank and AmBank all registered notable gains during the session, reflecting renewed investor interest in the financial services sector.
Compared with earlier in the week, this strength in heavyweight shares helped drive broader market sentiment, following several sessions in which the FBM KLCI, the benchmark index, reached multi-year highs supported by sustained buying in blue chips.
Market analysts say the rebound has been underpinned by a combination of factors:
- Improving economic confidence, with local and foreign investors betting on stable fundamentals and corporate earnings;
- Positive momentum from strong blue-chip demand, especially in banks that benefit from solid domestic lending growth and financial resilience;
- A strengthening ringgit and improved risk sentiment, which has encouraged portfolio flows back into Malaysian equities.
Although some active mid- and small-cap counters showed mixed performance, with select industrial and pharmaceutical names trading lower, the leadership of bank stocks helped buoy overall market tone on the day.
Investors will continue to watch how this rebound unfolds, particularly in the context of regional markets also gaining ground, while broader macro signals, such as global interest rate expectations and corporate earnings, are set to influence sentiment in the coming weeks.
