Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 28 October 2026 – Online service providers removed 56,304 items of harmful or false content after requests from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching told Parliament. The figure covers 1 January 2023 to 15 October 2026 and represents 86% of 65,680 requests submitted during that period.

The disclosure matters to technology companies, advertisers and investors because it shows the scale of Malaysia’s content-moderation process and the growing operational role of platform compliance. The removal and enforcement figures are reported government data; they do not mean that every item was found unlawful by a court. For digital businesses, the challenge is balancing timely responses to regulator requests with clear review procedures and user safeguards.
