KUALA LUMPUR, 5 April 2026 — Malaysia Airlines Berhad, under Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), will launch new routes to Shenzhen and Changsha, China, starting July 2026, as it strengthens its footprint in key regional travel markets.
MAG president and group chief executive officer Izham Ismail said the expansion will enhance the airline’s presence in China, which continues to show strong demand.
“This expansion marks our eighth and ninth destinations in China’s market, which continues to perform strongly for MAG with today an average load factor of 85% in the first quarter of 2026 (1Q2026).
“With the support of the mutual visa-free arrangements between the two countries, this growth allows us to capture rising demand in one of the world’s most dynamic travel markets,” he said.
Expanding Asia Network and Japan Resumption
In addition to China, Malaysia Airlines will resume flights to Fukuoka, Japan, from July 2026, marking its third destination in Japan after Tokyo and Osaka.
Izham noted that the airline’s Japan routes have recorded load factors of around 90% in 1Q2026, reflecting sustained demand between Malaysia and Japan.
He added that the Fukuoka route is supported by strong business and industrial links, particularly the semiconductor industry on Japan’s Kyushu Island.
Increased Frequencies Across Key Markets
MAG chief commercial officer Dersenish Aresandiran said the airline is also increasing flight frequencies across several routes.
“The increased flight frequencies also include the likes of Brisbane, Manila, and Colombo, enhancing flexibility for both leisure and business travellers,” he said.
The expanded schedule will strengthen Malaysia Airlines’ connectivity across ASEAN, South Asia, Australia and New Zealand, supporting growing regional travel demand.
