Hong Kong, 13 October 2026 – China’s Finance Minister Lan Foan is scheduled to deliver the opening address at next week’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation finance ministers’ meeting in Hong Kong, placing regional economic coordination at the centre of the city’s international agenda. The gathering on 20 and 21 October will bring together representatives from APEC’s 21 member economies at a time of high borrowing costs, energy uncertainty and uneven growth.
A draft programme indicates that the meeting will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. Financial institutions including the International Monetary Fund, World Bank and regional development lenders are expected to present economic assessments and policy proposals. Those contributions should give ministers a common evidence base, although any collective statement will still depend on political agreement among economies with different priorities.
