Beijing, 1 February 2026 – A new cultural exhibition themed on the Chinese zodiac Year of the Horse is scheduled to open at the National Museum of China on 30 January, showcasing more than 120 pieces and sets of historical relics that celebrate the symbolic animal and its influence in Chinese culture.
The exhibition, which attracted early visitors on the eve of its opening, offers attendees a rich visual journey through artefacts connected to the Horse zodiac, an enduring symbol of strength, vitality and auspiciousness in Chinese tradition.
Situated in central Beijing, the National Museum of China is preparing to present these cultural treasures to the public as part of festivities and celebrations linked to the Lunar New Year holiday period. Relics on display include intricately crafted objects spanning centuries, some of which illustrate how the Horse motif has been expressed in ceramics, sculpture, calligraphy and folk art.
Local visitors taking photos of exhibits on 29 January offered early glimpses of the displays ahead of their official unveiling. Organisers hope the exhibition will deepen public appreciation for China’s zodiac heritage, while drawing connections between traditional cultural symbols and contemporary artistic interpretations.
Cultural shows and museum events tied to the Lunar New Year are a longstanding part of community engagement in China, and this Year of the Horse themed exhibition provides both domestic and international visitors with an opportunity to explore the historical significance of the zodiac in Chinese life and art.
