Kuala Lumpur, 22 October 2026 – CIMB Group Holdings Berhad said it has made no decision and tabled no formal proposal to privatise its Indonesian subsidiary, PT Bank CIMB Niaga Tbk. The clarification follows reports that the group was considering a transaction as Indonesia raises the minimum public shareholding requirement for listed companies to 15% from 7.5%.
The statement matters because it narrows the range of confirmed facts available to investors. CIMB is evaluating how to comply with Indonesia’s free-float rules, but a privatisation is not an approved transaction. Shareholders should therefore distinguish the group’s regulatory planning from a board-backed offer, financing commitment or timetable, none of which has been announced.
