Beijing, 23 October 2026 – China’s concentrated solar power capacity reached 2.12 gigawatts at the end of June, up 39.5% from a year earlier, after 300 megawatts were added in the first half of 2026. The country’s solar-thermal plants generated 850 million kilowatt-hours during the six-month period, according to verified national energy data.
The expansion matters to Asian businesses and investors because concentrated solar power can store heat and generate electricity after sunset, complementing variable solar and wind output. The installed-capacity and generation figures are confirmed. The technology’s future competitiveness will depend on construction costs, operating reliability, grid demand and the value assigned to dispatchable low-carbon power.
