China’s GDI Priorities Expand Development Finance and Global South Reach

Beijing, China, 28 July 2026 – China has outlined four priorities for the next phase of its Global Development Initiative as the programme marks its fifth anniversary, reinforcing Beijing’s ambition to shape development cooperation across the Global South. The framework is moving from broad diplomatic messaging towards projects, finance, capacity building and multilateral coordination.

The initiative places development higher in global policy discussions and aligns cooperation with poverty reduction, food security, industrialisation, digitalisation, green transition and the United Nations development agenda. China argues that these areas require practical investment rather than geopolitical confrontation.
