Kuala Lumpur, 15 May 2026 – Bursa Malaysia trimmed its early gains on Friday as investors locked in profits and adopted a more cautious stance ahead of Malaysia’s first-quarter 2026 gross domestic product data, despite a strong overnight performance on Wall Street.
The local market opened firmer, taking its cue from record highs in the United States, where technology and artificial intelligence-linked counters continued to drive investor optimism. However, buying momentum faded quickly as market participants shifted attention back to domestic macroeconomic data and the near-term direction of Malaysia’s growth outlook.
