Kuala Lumpur, 2 September 2026 – Bursa Malaysia recovered above the 1,700 level as investors returned to selected blue chips after a recent sell-off and positioned ahead of Bank Negara Malaysia’s policy decision. The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI gained 8.20 points to 1,708.74 from 1,700.54, after opening at 1,700.96 and moving between 1,695.89 and 1,709.71. The closing advance signalled bargain hunting, although the broader market remained weaker than the benchmark suggested.
Declining counters outnumbered gainers by 746 to 424, while 554 stocks were unchanged. Turnover fell to 4.20 billion units worth RM3.52 billion from 5.52 billion units valued at RM4.42 billion in the previous session. That combination of a higher index, negative breadth and lower activity indicates that buying was concentrated rather than a decisive return of risk appetite. Large-cap support can stabilise the benchmark even when many smaller companies remain under pressure.
