Kuala Lumpur, 23 September 2026 – Short-term Malaysian interbank rates are expected to remain stable as Bank Negara Malaysia absorbs excess cash from the banking system through conventional and Islamic money-market operations. The central bank estimated surplus liquidity at RM35.96 billion in the conventional market and RM27.38 billion in Islamic money markets, figures that frame the scale of its daily intervention rather than a change in monetary policy.
The bank scheduled two conventional reverse-repurchase tenders: RM5 billion for seven days and RM1.5 billion for 30 days. It also planned Islamic reverse-repurchase transactions reported at RM500 million with 30-day and 91-day tenors. The mix of maturities allows the authority to remove cash for different periods while keeping the overnight market aligned with its policy target.
