Seoul, South Korea, 4 August 2026 – Bank of Korea board members considered the case for additional interest-rate increases, minutes showed, keeping monetary tightening in view after the central bank lifted its benchmark rate to 2.75% in July.
The July move was the first increase since January 2023 and raised the policy rate by 25 basis points from 2.5%. Policymakers are confronting a combination of firmer inflation, high household debt and property-market risks even as semiconductor exports and artificial-intelligence investment support stronger economic growth.
