Anwar Urges Malaysians to Defend Harmony as Extremist Voices Test National Unity

KUALA LUMPUR, 24 May 2026 – Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has urged Malaysians not to allow a vocal minority of extremists to overpower the silent majority who value peace, moderation and national harmony.

Speaking at the Madani Harmony Forum held in conjunction with Wesak Day, Anwar warned that small groups were using racial and religious sentiments to create tension within society. He said those who spread anger, hatred, slander and intimidation represented only a minority, while most Malaysians across all communities wanted a peaceful, stable and successful country.
