Anwar Praises Muslim-Hindu NGO Reconciliation as Sign of Malaysia’s Social Maturity

PUTRAJAYA, 19 March 2026 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has commended recent reconciliation efforts between Muslim and Hindu non-governmental organisations (NGOs), describing the initiative as a clear reflection of the Malaysian public’s maturity in handling sensitive interfaith and racial issues.

The effort, driven by representatives from both Malay-Muslim and Indian-Hindu communities, was aimed at resolving ongoing tensions through dialogue and mutual understanding under the Harmoni Madani programme. Around 30 NGO representatives participated in discussions focused on finding common ground and promoting peaceful resolution.

Anwar welcomed the initiative, emphasising that choosing dialogue over division demonstrates a deeper societal commitment to unity and coexistence. He noted that such efforts embody the “true spirit and soul of Malaysia,” built on values of kindness, mutual respect and togetherness across races and religions.

He further stressed that maintaining harmony is essential to national strength, urging Malaysians to continue preserving these values as the foundation of the country’s stability. The Prime Minister also expressed appreciation to all stakeholders involved, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), for facilitating the initiative’s success.

The reconciliation initiative comes amid broader concerns over racial and religious sensitivities in Malaysia, highlighting the importance of constructive engagement between communities. Anwar reiterated that such collaborative efforts should serve as a model for addressing future issues, reinforcing unity in a diverse society.

The development underscores a key national narrative: that Malaysia’s long-standing multicultural fabric remains resilient when guided by dialogue, respect and shared responsibility.
