Kuala Lumpur, 08 October 2025 — Malaysian electronics manufacturer Betamek Berhad (“Betamek”) has taken a bold step beyond the automotive sector by entering the aviation and rail technology space. Its subsidiary, Betamek Research Sdn. Bhd. (BRSB), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pecca Aviation Services Sdn. Bhd. (PASSB), a wholly-owned unit of Pecca Group Berhad, to jointly develop cutting-edge In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) and In-Train Entertainment (ITE) systems for the Asia Pacific region.
The collaboration, announced at a ceremony witnessed by YBhg. Dato’ Hasan Azhari, Chief Executive Officer of Invest Selangor Berhad, and En. Naguib Mohd Nor, President of the Malaysia Aerospace Industry Association, marks a significant diversification milestone for both partners.
Expanding Technological Horizons Beyond Automotive
The partnership will bring together Betamek’s proven expertise in electronics R&D, digital interfaces, and infotainment software with Pecca Aviation’s deep experience in aircraft cabin maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), and interior engineering design.
Under the MoU, BRSB will lead in the development of digital terminals, content management systems, and software integration, while PASSB will focus on integrating these entertainment technologies into aircraft and train cabin structures, ensuring they meet international aviation and railway compliance standards.
Joint efforts will also include prototyping, functional testing, and system validation, supported by PASSB’s established market access network across the regional aviation supply chain.
Strategic Synergy for a Connected Passenger Future
Encik Muhammad Fauzi Bin Abd Ghani, Executive Director of Betamek Berhad, said the MoU represents a pivotal step in extending the company’s technological leadership into high-value mobility applications:
“This collaboration with PASSB is a significant milestone for Betamek as it extends our expertise beyond the automotive sector into aviation and train segments. By combining our electronics R&D capabilities with PASSB’s established presence in aviation cabin ecosystems, we aim to deliver innovative, high-quality travel entertainment solutions that redefine the passenger experience across the Asia Pacific.”
Echoing this, Mr. Hugo Teoh (张继尹), Executive Director of Pecca Group Berhad, highlighted the rising expectations of modern passengers:
“The aviation and transportation sectors are rapidly evolving with passengers demanding greater comfort, connectivity and convenience. This partnership merges Pecca’s high-quality craftsmanship in seating systems with Betamek’s digital infotainment innovation to deliver a next-generation passenger experience, enhancing both operator efficiency and passenger satisfaction.”
Strengthening Malaysia’s Role in the Regional Mobility Ecosystem
The partnership complements Malaysia’s National Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030 and aligns with the country’s ambition to become a regional technology hub for smart mobility and sustainable transport solutions.
By incorporating Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles, Betamek and Pecca plan to design energy-efficient, lightweight entertainment systems that reduce environmental impact while improving operational efficiency for airlines and train operators.
This collaboration also highlights the country’s growing capacity to move up the value chain, from traditional manufacturing toward integrated R&D-driven technology solutions, while expanding Malaysia’s footprint in the global aerospace and mobility technology landscape.
