Kuala Lumpur, 21 September 2025 — Bursa Malaysia is expected to continue trading in a lateral, or sideways, pattern in the near term, but with a mild upward bias as investors await new catalysts that could revive momentum. According to Thong Pak Leng, Vice President of Equity Research at Rakuten Trade, sustained buying during dips suggests that the market isn’t ready to give up ground.
The FBM KLCI — the benchmark index — is anticipated to fluctuate between 1,580 and 1,620 points next week, reflecting a consolidation phase as market participants wait for fresh triggers. Thong Pak Leng said that despite the lack of strong directional drivers, the medium-term outlook remains cautiously positive.
Last week saw mixed performance, with some profit-taking activity attributed to an absence of new economic or corporate catalysts. On a week-to-week basis, the FBM KLCI eased slightly from 1,600.13 down to 1,598.23 points. Meanwhile, other indices such as the FBM Emas, FBMT 100, and FBM 70 showed incremental gains.
Turnover fell, especially when compared with earlier weeks, indicating lighter trading activity as investors adopt a wait-and-see posture.
