Singapore, 15 September 2025 — U.S. banking giant Citigroup has appointed veteran banker Lee Lung Nien as its Citi Country Officer and Head of Banking in Singapore, the company announced today. Lee, who has more than three decades of experience with Citi, will assume his new role on 6 October, reporting directly to Amol Gupte, who is Citi’s Asia-South head.
Lee brings to the role a long track record of leadership in private banking. Since 2020, he has been serving as Chairman of Citi Private Bank for South Asia, where he oversaw services for high-net-worth individuals and managed significant growth amid a fast-changing wealth landscape.
In his new position, Lee will be responsible for all Citi operations and business in Singapore — steering franchise performance, managing client relationships, ensuring compliance with regulations, and maintaining strong risk-management controls. The role positions him as the key executive for Citi’s strategic expansion in one of Asia’s major financial hubs.
Lee succeeds Tibor Pandi, who has held the post for eight years in Asia. Pandi will be departing the assignment in Singapore and exploring other opportunities within the bank. Citi said Pandi’s leadership helped establish a foundation for the bank’s Singapore operations; Lee’s task will be to build on that legacy while steering Citi toward growth under increasingly competitive regional banking conditions.
A notable detail in this appointment is that Lee Lung Nien becomes the first Singaporean in 50 years to serve as Citi’s top executive in Singapore. The bank described the selection as a milestone — underlining its commitment to local leadership amid global operational strategies.
