New York, 14 September 2025 — Lila Sciences, a biotechnology startup harnessing artificial intelligence to accelerate the discovery of new drugs and materials, has raised US$235 million in its latest funding round, securing a valuation of approximately US$1.23 billion, according to company announcements and Bloomberg reporting.
The round was led by investment firms Collective Global and Braidwell, with participation from other strategic backers. The capital is earmarked for expanding Lila Sciences’ AI-powered research platform—which combines generative AI, robotics, and autonomous lab systems—and scaling its operations to accelerate scientific innovation.
Lila’s model aims to close the loop in scientific experimentation: AI generates hypotheses, designs experiments, robotic systems execute the experiments, and outcomes feed back into the AI models to refine further hypotheses. The startup has already shown promising early results in discovering novel antibodies and peptides, as well as creating non-platinum group metals that could be used in green hydrogen production.
With this funding, Lila Sciences plans to deepen partnerships with external labs, enhance its computational and robotics infrastructure, and extend its research facility footprint. The injection of fresh capital is expected to support the ambitious goal of accelerating innovation while maintaining strong scientific rigor.
Industry observers regard this funding round as a signal of growing investor confidence in AI-driven biotech and materials science. As competition intensifies, startups capable of integrating machine learning with lab automation are increasingly seen as potential disruptors of traditional R&D timelines.
Still, challenges loom. Scaling such systems demands high upfront cost, robust regulatory compliance, and seamless integration of hardware, software, and experimental workflows. For Lila, delivering on its promise will depend on its ability to manage complexity and produce reproducible, impactful scientific outcomes.
