Taipei, 30 October 2026 – Foxconn, formally Hon Hai Precision Industry Co, is working on a new collaboration with OpenAI, Chairman Young Liu said after meeting OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman. Details were not disclosed, but Liu said an announcement would follow once the terms are confirmed. The possible tie-up would build on a 2025 agreement to design and engineer data-centre racks, components and other artificial-intelligence hardware. Foxconn also said its cloud and networking products, including AI servers, accounted for 51 per cent of second-quarter revenue.
The development matters to Asian businesses and investors because the region’s electronics manufacturers are moving closer to the economics of AI infrastructure rather than remaining pure contract assemblers. The confirmed facts are the proposed collaboration, the earlier hardware agreement and the 51 per cent revenue contribution; the financial value of any new deal is not yet known. Investors should therefore separate a strategic signal from contracted revenue and watch whether AI capacity creates durable margins or simply increases capital intensity.
