Kuala Lumpur, 29 October 2026 – Malaysia’s Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the government is confident that gross domestic product growth in 2026 will exceed 5%, pointing to a strong domestic economy. The statement comes after reported growth of 5.4% in the first quarter and 6.0% in the second quarter, with first-half growth averaging 5.7%.
For Asian businesses and investors, the figures matter because they place Malaysia among the region’s stronger current performers and support the case for continued manufacturing, services and infrastructure investment. The quarterly numbers are reported outcomes, while the expectation that full-year growth will exceed 5% remains a statement of confidence rather than a final result. Investors will therefore weigh domestic demand and capital inflows against external trade, currency and policy risks.
