Melaka, 26 October 2026 – SoftBank Group Corp chairman and chief executive Masayoshi Son has selected locations in Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia for technology investments valued at US$50 billion, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar said the planned projects would cover artificial intelligence, new technology and data centres, and described the commitment during a speech in Melaka on 24 October.

The scale matters to Asian businesses and investors because it could deepen Malaysia’s role in regional AI infrastructure while creating demand for power, connectivity, construction and skilled services. The US$50 billion figure and selected regions were reported by the prime minister; detailed project schedules, financing structures, individual site capacities and binding capital commitments have not yet been publicly disclosed.
