London, 24 October 2026 – Leveraged funds increased their net short position in euro futures by 1,305 contracts to 94,138 in the week ended 20 October, equivalent to about €11.8 billion or US$13.2 billion. The position was the most bearish since March 2020, according to weekly US derivatives-market data.

The positioning matters to Asian investors because the euro is a major reserve, trade and funding currency. A crowded bearish stance can reinforce dollar strength and affect Asian currencies, European export exposure and hedging costs. The futures position is confirmed, but it reflects one market segment and does not guarantee that the euro will continue to weaken.
