Singapore, 22 October 2026 – The United States dollar steadied after a recent decline as currency traders prepared for central-bank meetings in the United States, Japan and Europe. Sterling held near US$1.3396 after reaching a one-month high earlier in the week, while the Australian dollar remained above 70 US cents at about US$0.7025 and the New Zealand dollar traded near a one-month high around US$0.5709.
The pause matters to Asian businesses and investors because the dollar sets funding and import costs across the region. The current prices are confirmed market observations, but the next direction is uncertain. Investors expect several central banks to keep rates unchanged at their coming meetings, while retaining relatively firm guidance as inflation and energy costs complicate the path toward easier policy.
