Beijing, 20 October 2026 – China imported 360,878 metric tonnes of soybeans from the United States in September, compared with no shipments in the same month a year earlier, according to Chinese customs data. The cargoes reflect purchases made under the agreement that ended last year’s trade confrontation, while traders said China had bought more than 60% of its 25-million-tonne target for the 2026/27 marketing year.
For Asian businesses and investors, the return of US supply changes the balance across oilseed trading, crushing margins, livestock feed and agricultural freight. The September figure is confirmed customs data, but the wider purchase target depends on future deliveries and should not be treated as completed demand. Brazilian and Argentine suppliers remain important, so the rebound signals diversification rather than an immediate restoration of the old trade pattern.
