Kuala Lumpur, 16 October 2026 – Malaysia’s economy expanded 5.3% year on year in the third quarter of 2026, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia’s advance estimate released on 16 October. Growth moderated from 6.0% in the preceding quarter and was supported by services, manufacturing and construction, while agriculture rebounded and mining contracted.
For businesses and investors, the result confirms continued expansion at a pace stronger than several private forecasts, while showing normalisation from the second quarter. The 5.3% figure is an advance estimate based on incomplete information; detailed official GDP data due on 18 November may refine the sector picture.
