Kuala Lumpur, 16 October 2026 – Malaysia’s semiconductor exports rose sharply in the first eight months of 2026, reinforcing the sector’s role as the country’s main trade engine as global demand for artificial intelligence hardware and advanced electronics accelerated. Semiconductors contributed RM483.6 billion, or about 68% of Malaysia’s electrical and electronics exports, between January and August, while total electrical and electronics exports reached RM656.14 billion over the same period.
For businesses and investors, the figures show how strongly Malaysia is benefiting from the global semiconductor upcycle, particularly through assembly, testing and other parts of the electronics supply chain. They also underline a concentration risk: electrical and electronics products accounted for 48.4% of total exports in the first eight months of 2026, leaving Malaysia more exposed to changes in global chip demand, technology cycles and trade policy.
