Manila, 13 October 2026 – The eruption of Kanlaon Volcano in the central Philippines has affected about 24,000 families, or roughly 94,000 people, widening the economic and operational risks facing communities and businesses on Negros Island. Authorities said the moderately explosive eruption generated an ash plume five to six kilometres above the crater, with further explosive activity still possible.
The eruption occurred on Saturday, 10 October. Eight separate ash-emission episodes were observed on Sunday and at least five more on Monday. Kanlaon remained at Alert Level 2, while communities were warned about ashfall, volcanic gases, pyroclastic density currents and ballistic projectiles if conditions deteriorated.
