Kuala Lumpur, 1 October 2026 – Malaysia’s benchmark FBM KLCI fell 15.36 points, or 0.93%, to 1,635.81 at midday, extending a modestly weaker opening into a broader morning sell-off. The index touched 1,634.39 during the session. Across Bursa Malaysia, 585 counters declined against 305 gainers, while 464 were unchanged. Turnover reached 1.65 billion shares valued at RM1.19 billion. These are midday readings, not closing figures.
The move represents a material change from the early session, when the benchmark had slipped only 3.95 points at about 9:07 a.m. The later decline and the imbalance between falling and rising counters suggest pressure was not confined to a single heavyweight. For investors assessing the day’s risk appetite, that breadth is at least as relevant as the index level: it shows how widely the selling spread before the afternoon session began.
