Kuala Lumpur, 30 September 2026 – Bursa Malaysia opened higher on Wednesday as bargain hunting lifted the benchmark index, but the move remained a measured early-session rebound rather than proof of a sustained turn. At 9.26am, the FBM KLCI was up 5.20 points, or 0.33%, at 1,649.16, after opening at 1,646.49. Those figures describe a snapshot of morning trading, not a closing level. Investors were weighing selective buying opportunities against elevated United States bond yields, geopolitical uncertainty and a shortage of fresh domestic catalysts.
The wider backdrop was cautious. Major US equity benchmarks had ended the previous session modestly lower as bond yields weighed on risk appetite. Higher long-term yields can increase the discount rate applied to future corporate earnings and make fixed-income returns more competitive with equities. For Malaysia, this matters especially to growth-oriented counters whose valuations depend on projects and cash flows several years away. A one-day bounce in beaten-down shares therefore needs to be separated from a broader improvement in financing conditions.
