Kuala Lumpur, 24 September 2026 – The ringgit finished Thursday higher against several major and regional currencies but eased against the US dollar, reflecting a session of changing direction rather than a broad-based loss of confidence in the Malaysian unit. At 6 p.m., it was quoted at 4.0840/0880 per US dollar, compared with Wednesday’s close of 4.0780/0825. A higher ringgit-per-dollar quotation means the local currency was weaker against the greenback.
The route to that closing price was uneven. The ringgit weakened to around RM4.0940 per dollar during the morning before recovering to about RM4.0793 in the afternoon, according to a local bank economist cited in the source report. That intraday rebound did not prevent a softer 6 p.m. dollar quotation. Investors should therefore distinguish a recovery from the session low from a gain against the previous day’s official close.
