Kuala Lumpur, 22 September 2026 – Two Malaysian-listed companies have secured sizeable but very different infrastructure work: a Gamuda joint venture won a A$624 million road-upgrade contract in Western Sydney, while Powerwell Holdings obtained purchase orders worth a combined RM190.4 million for low-voltage switchgear and related equipment at a Johor data-centre project. The awards show how regional transport spending and digital infrastructure investment can support separate parts of the Malaysian corporate sector. They should not, however, be treated as equivalent earnings events.
Gamuda’s joint venture with Australia’s B.M.D Constructions secured the Elizabeth Drive Upgrade–Mamre Road Upgrade Stage 2 project from Transport for New South Wales. The reported contract value is A$624 million, approximately RM1.8 billion. For Gamuda, the work adds to its Australian civil-engineering presence and provides another opportunity to use project-management capabilities across markets. The financial contribution to the Malaysian group will depend on its joint-venture share, project duration, cost escalation provisions and execution margin, not the full headline contract value alone.
