New York, 16 September 2026 – Leading artificial-intelligence executives are converging on the need for stronger safety oversight while disagreeing on whether development itself should slow. The debate between frontier laboratories, chip companies and platform operators is moving from abstract principles toward independent evaluation, system access and accountability.
Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei has argued that safety measures need time to catch up with rapidly advancing models. The company committed to give third-party evaluators sustained, employee-level access to verify safeguards, report incidents and assess alignment. It also redirected engineering resources toward security, reliability and privacy.
