Petaling Jaya, 3 September 2026 – Tenaga Nasional Bhd could gain a new earnings and capital-investment catalyst from a proposed on-site power project of up to 1.5 gigawatts for DayOne Data Centre in Selangor. The companies have signed a non-binding agreement to study the development, leaving final capacity and configuration subject to technical, commercial and regulatory assessment.
The proposal could combine renewable generation with battery energy storage to serve a large data-centre campus. Under one analyst scenario, TNB would develop 1.5GW of solar capacity, install battery storage equivalent to 50% of generation capacity and retain a 70% project stake under a 21-year arrangement. Those assumptions produce an estimated internal rate of return of 10%.
