New York, United States, 18 August 2026 – The dollar edged lower against the euro as investors reassessed the outlook for US interest rates after a run of softer economic data. The move reflects a shift in expectations rather than a wholesale retreat from the currency, with markets awaiting the Federal Reserve’s minutes and the next signals on growth.
The euro reached a two-month high near US$1.1578 and was last up 0.08% against the dollar. The greenback also weakened 0.34% against the Swiss franc to 0.81085. The dollar index, which measures the currency against a basket of major peers, recovered from an early decline but remained around 99.60.
