Japan Places Michibiki No. 7 Satellite into Orbit with H3 Rocket

Kagoshima, Japan, 11 August 2026 – Japan successfully placed the domestically developed Michibiki No. 7 positioning satellite into its intended orbit on Tuesday, advancing efforts to build a more resilient national geolocation system after a launch failure reduced the planned constellation.

An H3 rocket carrying the satellite lifted off from the Tanegashima Space Center shortly after 4am Japan time. The vehicle separated its two boosters and first stage during ascent before deploying Michibiki No. 7 into the target orbit about 29 minutes after liftoff.
