Beijing, 7 August 2026 – Chinese technology titan ByteDance has initiated early-stage pre-training for a massive frontier artificial intelligence model designed to feature as many as 10 trillion parameters. The ambitious engineering initiative aims to rival the raw parameter capacity of cutting-edge Western systems such as Anthropic’s Mythos, signaling a major acceleration in China’s drive to establish technological parity with leading American research laboratories. If successfully fine-tuned and deployed, the system would mark the largest foundation model ever constructed by a mainland technology developer, dramatically expanding the scale of domestic frontier AI research.
At 10 trillion parameters, ByteDance’s upcoming architecture would be more than three times the size of Moonshot AI’s 2.8-trillion parameter Kimi K3, previously China’s largest public model. The model is currently undergoing initial pre-training—a resource-intensive compute phase expected to run between three and six months—before entering fine-tuning and safety evaluations. Parameter counts determine fundamental capacity and memory limits for storing complex patterns. By pushing into multi-trillion parameter territory, ByteDance is attempting to break through existing performance ceilings across complex reasoning, multimodal processing, and enterprise automation.
