Kuala Lumpur, 6 August 2026 – Malaysia’s audit profession recorded a notable improvement in inspection outcomes during 2025, although recurring weaknesses in financial reporting controls and mounting workforce pressures indicate that firms must continue strengthening their governance and quality-management systems.

The Audit Oversight Board’s Annual Inspection Report 2025 found that the proportion of audit engagements requiring significant improvement declined to 27%, compared with 46% in 2024. The reduction provides an encouraging signal for investors who depend on audited financial statements to evaluate corporate performance, financial position and management credibility.
