Kuala Lumpur, 29 July 2026 – Compensation paid to Malaysian workers reached a record RM686.9 billion in 2025, highlighting the growing role of labour income in an economy that expanded to RM2.03 trillion at current prices. The milestone offers a useful measure of how national growth is being transmitted to households.
Compensation of employees includes wages and salaries as well as employer contributions connected to employment. It is broader than take-home pay and should not be read as the average amount received by an individual worker. Changes reflect employment levels, formalisation, wage growth and the structure of economic activity.
