Tokyo, 27 July 2026 – Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is pressing ahead with a ¥370 trillion, or approximately US$2.3 trillion, public-private investment programme aimed at revitalising Japan’s economy, despite growing concern over government debt, rising bond yields and persistent weakness in the yen.
The long-term strategy seeks to mobilise investment through fiscal 2040 across 17 industries considered critical to Japan’s growth and economic security. Artificial intelligence, semiconductors, digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, quantum technology, energy security, shipbuilding and space development are among the priority areas.
