Proton Deepens Electrification Push With New Hybrid Powertrain Strategy

Kuala Lumpur, 12 June 2026 – Proton is sharpening its future mobility strategy with a new hybrid powertrain push, positioning Malaysia’s national carmaker to compete more aggressively in a regional automotive market that is shifting from traditional internal combustion engines toward electrified mobility.

At the centre of the strategy are two core technologies: a Dedicated Hybrid Engine, or DHE, and a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission, or DHT. Together, the systems are designed to improve energy management, reduce fuel consumption and deliver a smoother driving experience for Malaysian road conditions. For Proton, the move reflects a wider attempt to build a more flexible electrification pathway that covers hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles.
