KUALA LUMPUR, 21 May 2026 – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has issued a statutory demand to TikTok over the platform’s alleged failure to take sufficient and timely action in moderating offensive and defamatory content involving Malaysia’s royal institution.
The action centres on content allegedly linked to an account that claimed association with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia. The regulator said the platform had failed to adequately moderate content considered offensive and defamatory toward the monarchy, raising concerns over platform accountability in handling sensitive and harmful online material.
