KUALA LUMPUR, 7 November 2025 — IJM Corporation Bhd (KLSE:IJM) has clarified that it is not aware of any potential merger proposal with Sunway Bhd (KLSE:SUNWAY), following local media reports suggesting that both companies have been in talks for more than a year over a possible share exchange deal.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd, IJM said its board has not been approached and has no knowledge of any such proposal at this stage.
“The board is not aware of any such proposal,” IJM stated.
“IJM is obliged to adhere to Bursa’s disclosure requirements and will make the necessary announcements should there be any material development.”
The company’s statement came in response to a report alleging that IJM and Sunway had been discussing a merger plan to create one of Malaysia’s largest diversified conglomerates, with operations spanning property development, construction, and infrastructure.
IJM’s clarification effectively dismisses the speculation, reaffirming the company’s commitment to regulatory transparency and timely market disclosure in accordance with Bursa Malaysia’s listing requirements.
Background: Market Speculation and Corporate Outlook
Both IJM and Sunway are among Malaysia’s major infrastructure and property development players.
- IJM Corporation Bhd (KLSE:IJM) is involved in construction, property, infrastructure concessions, and manufacturing.
- Sunway Bhd (KLSE:SUNWAY) operates across property, construction, healthcare, and education sectors.
The potential merger, if it were to occur, could have created one of the largest integrated property and infrastructure groups in Southeast Asia. However, as of now, no formal proposal or board-level engagement has been initiated, according to IJM’s disclosure.
Market analysts note that merger speculation tends to surface periodically amid consolidation trends in Malaysia’s infrastructure sector, particularly as companies seek stronger balance sheets and diversified growth avenues.
