Bursa Malaysia and AmInvest Launch Nation’s First SRI-Qualified ETF

By Katherine (Kay)3 min read

KUALA LUMPUR, 5 November 2025 — In a milestone for Malaysia’s sustainable finance landscape, Bursa Malaysia Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia”) and AmInvest have launched the FTSE4Good Bursa Malaysia ETF, the country’s first and only Sustainable and Responsible Investment (SRI)-qualified exchange-traded fund (ETF).

The new ETF tracks the FTSE4Good Bursa Malaysia Index, which comprises companies from the FTSE Bursa Malaysia EMAS Index that meet stringent Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) criteria. Developed by FTSE Russell in collaboration with Bursa Malaysia, the Index identifies Malaysian public-listed companies with strong ESG practices and aims to raise visibility for responsible investments in line with the country’s transition toward a low-carbon, sustainable economy.

Driving ESG Innovation in Capital Markets

“This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to product innovation, investor empowerment and the advancement of sustainability in Malaysia’s capital market,” said Dato’ Fad’l Mohamed, Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia.

“We are building a marketplace that offers greater choice, deeper liquidity and more opportunities for investors to achieve their financial goals, whether through securities, derivatives or ETFs. The FTSE4Good Bursa Malaysia ETF adds to the growing range of ETFs listed on the Exchange, from regional equities to fixed income, commodities, Shariah-compliant assets, and now ESG-focused indices.”

Bursa Malaysia currently lists 15 ETFs. The new fund strengthens the Exchange’s ESG product ecosystem and aligns with the FTSE4Good Bursa Malaysia Index, launched in 2014 as part of the Exchange’s long-term commitment to integrating sustainability across the marketplace.

AmInvest Expands Leadership in Responsible Investment

AmInvest, the fund management arm of AmBank Group, now manages the country’s largest ETF portfolio with RM1.8 billion in ETF assets under management (AUM), representing about 75.4% market share. It is also Malaysia’s leading provider of SRI-qualified funds, managing RM4.3 billion AUM across nine sustainability-linked funds.

“The launch of Malaysia’s first and only SRI-qualified ETF is a meaningful milestone for us at AmInvest and reflects AmBank Group’s continuous commitment to embedding sustainability across our business,” said Jamie Ling, Group Chief Executive Officer of AmBank Group.

“This ETF broadens our suite of responsible investment solutions while reinforcing our ambition to lead in shaping a more sustainable financial ecosystem. As investors increasingly seek purpose-driven opportunities, we believe capital must be a powerful catalyst for positive change.”

Goh Wee Peng, Managing Director of AmBank Group Wealth Management, added:

“This Fund meets growing investor demand for ethical and sustainable investments. With a low initial investment of just 100 units, investors can access a diversified portfolio of Malaysian companies demonstrating strong ESG leadership across sectors such as banking, healthcare, utilities, telecommunications and construction.”

Recognition and Market Impact

AmInvest’s track record in sustainable investing has been recognised by multiple industry awards, including:

  • Best Sustainable Investments – Malaysia by Citywire,
  • Best ESG Initiative (two consecutive years) by Corporate Treasurer,
  • Biggest ESG Impact – Non-Bank Financial Institutions (Domestic) (two consecutive years) by FinanceAsia, and
  • Malaysia’s Best ETF Provider (fourth consecutive year) and Best Passive Asset Manager (second consecutive year) at the Asset Triple A Sustainable Investing Awards 2025.

The launch of the FTSE4Good Bursa Malaysia ETF reinforces Malaysia’s growing role as a regional hub for sustainable capital formation, linking responsible investors with companies that demonstrate ESG excellence.
