Oakland, 16 May 2026 – Alphabet’s YouTube and Snap have reached settlements with a Kentucky school district in a closely watched case accusing major social media platforms of contributing to a youth mental health crisis and increasing costs for schools.
The settlements, disclosed in federal court filings in Oakland, California, resolve claims brought by Breathitt County School District in rural eastern Kentucky. Terms of the settlements were not disclosed. The district’s claims against Meta Platforms, the parent of Facebook and Instagram, and TikTok are still scheduled to go to trial on 15 June.
