Kuala Lumpur, 1 October 2026 – Malaysia’s anti-corruption authority has identified governance weaknesses at UiTM Holdings as it investigates an alleged RM37.37 million breach of trust linked to a solar project. The finding raises a wider question for investors and public-sector stakeholders: whether oversight systems can detect the misuse of entrusted funds before a project’s financial and reputational costs escalate.
The investigation concerns money entrusted for a proposed 50-megawatt solar development in Gambang, Pahang. Former UiTM Holdings chief executive Azlizan Fadzil has pleaded not guilty to a criminal breach of trust charge involving RM37.37 million. Prosecutors allege the funds were directed to purposes other than the project for which they were entrusted. The allegation remains before the court; it is not a finding of guilt, and the governance review should not be mistaken for a verdict on the individual charge.
