Beijing, 15 May 2026 – US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping moved into a second day of high-stakes talks in Beijing, with both sides seeking to secure tangible results on trade, technology, oil supplies and strategic tensions after a first round marked by cautious public messaging and sharp private warnings over Taiwan.
The second day of discussions comes after Xi told Trump that mishandling the Taiwan issue could place US-China relations in “a very dangerous place,” underscoring how national security concerns remain central to Beijing’s view of the relationship. Despite the warning, both leaders publicly emphasised the importance of maintaining stability between the world’s two largest economies.
