Kuala Lumpur, 30 July 2026 – Fresh scrutiny of Tabung Haji’s 2018 restructuring has returned attention to the transfer of stakes in 106 listed companies, one unlisted plantation business and 29 properties to Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd, the government-owned vehicle created to rehabilitate underperforming assets. The review matters because the transaction reshaped the balance sheet of an institution entrusted with Malaysian pilgrims’ savings.
The transferred portfolio was valued at about RM9.7 billion, while the agreed transfer value was close to RM19.9 billion. The arrangement was designed to remove weak assets from the fund, restore compliance with statutory requirements and allow it to continue paying distributions from a stronger financial position.
