Cyberjaya, 26 September 2026 – The Royal Selangor Polo & Equestrian Club, or RSPEC, has been officially opened in Cyberjaya by the Sultan of Selangor, marking a significant addition to Selangor’s sports, recreation and sports-tourism landscape.

The opening was held in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee of the Sultan’s reign and was also attended by the Tengku Permaisuri Selangor.

RSPEC has been positioned as a multi-purpose sporting destination combining polo and equestrian facilities with broader recreational and community-focused amenities.

The club’s leadership said the objective is to elevate polo and equestrian sport in Selangor while building a venue capable of hosting regional and domestic competitions, community programmes and sports-tourism activities.

World-Class Polo and Equestrian Facilities

The Cyberjaya complex includes a full polo field surrounded by a one-kilometre sand track, together with 136 horse stables and both indoor and outdoor arenas.

The facilities were developed to meet international standards, giving RSPEC the capability to host high-level polo and equestrian events.

The main playing field was laid by SATIRI Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of UPM Holdings, using Certified Satiri Bermuda GLP grass selected for durability and playing safety.

RSPEC president Y.D.M. Engku Maharaja Lela Setia Paduka Dato’ Syed Budriz Putra Jamalullail said the club was developed with a clear vision to raise the standard of polo and equestrian sport while creating an open, active and community-relevant destination.

The opening, he said, represents the beginning of a broader role for RSPEC in sports development, sports tourism and community activity in Selangor.

RDA Selangor to Bring Equestrian Therapy to Children

The club also plans to serve a wider social function.

A Riding for the Disabled Association, or RDA Selangor, initiative will be based at RSPEC and is expected to begin operations in January 2027.

The programme will provide equestrian therapy for children with special needs.

The initiative will have Y.M. Datin Paduka Seri Afzaa Fadini, wife of the Raja Muda of Selangor, as its Royal Patron.

The launch marks her first patronage of a programme of this nature.

Another cultural element at RSPEC is an exclusive horse sculpture by contemporary Malaysian artist Dato’ Yusof Ghani, which was officially unveiled by the Sultan of Selangor.

The artwork is intended to become a permanent cultural landmark within the complex and reflects the club’s effort to connect sport, art and heritage.

Sejiwa Social Club Expands Recreation Offering

The royal visit also included Sejiwa Social Club, an integrated racket-sports and recreation destination located within the same complex.

The facility includes eight dedicated pickleball courts, one dedicated padel court and a “Royal Pickle Court” designed to meet international tournament specifications.

Each court is named after one of Selangor’s nine districts, creating a symbolic link between the recreational facility and the wider state.

The surrounding area also includes a golf training centre, futsal, tennis and basketball facilities.

Importantly, RSPEC has stated that the facilities, including Sejiwa Social Club, are open to the public and are not restricted to private members.

That approach broadens the club’s potential role beyond traditional equestrian circles and positions it as a wider sports and lifestyle destination.

The Ledger Asia Insights

For Selangor, RSPEC represents more than a new leisure facility.

Its value lies in the way it combines sports infrastructure, tourism, community participation and social programmes within a single destination.

Large-scale equestrian facilities are relatively specialised assets, but when integrated with public recreation, hospitality and event programming, they can support a broader visitor economy.

Cyberjaya is also an important location.

The city has traditionally been associated with technology, education and administrative functions, but developments such as RSPEC could diversify its identity towards lifestyle, recreation and destination-based activity.

The club’s ability to host regional competitions could also support sports tourism by attracting participants, spectators and international equestrian communities.

The addition of public-facing facilities such as pickleball, padel, golf training and other recreational amenities further strengthens the commercial and community proposition.

At the same time, the RDA Selangor programme adds a social-impact dimension by making equestrian therapy available to children with special needs.

RSPEC’s long-term success will therefore depend on whether it can operate as more than an elite polo venue. If it succeeds in combining competitive sport, public recreation, tourism and inclusive community programmes, it could become a new model for destination-based sports development in Selangor.
