Seoul, 4 September 2026 – South Korean equities advanced for a second session as strong export indicators and reduced concern over an imminent United States interest-rate increase encouraged investors to rebuild risk positions. The Korea Composite Stock Price Index rose 107.73 points, or 1.64%, to close at 6,687.21 after a 0.26% gain in the previous session. The Korean won also strengthened, ending at 1,350.4 per US dollar, up 8.9 won from the prior close.
Foreign and institutional investors were the principal buyers, purchasing a combined net 2.15 trillion won of shares, while retail investors sold 3.72 trillion won. Trading volume was relatively light at 235.5 million shares worth 17.46 trillion won, or about US$12.9 billion. Market breadth was positive, with 546 gainers against 309 decliners, suggesting the rally extended beyond a narrow group even though large technology and energy names supplied much of the index momentum.
